All USPTA certified professionals have participated in an extensive education and testing process which included:
1. Completion of the Professional Tennis Coaches Academy
2. A 100-question written exam covering business and instruction
3. A stroke analysis and tennis grips exam
4. A playing exam
5. An on-court exam that requires teaching a private and a group lesson.
Joseph Gallo, DSc, ATC, PT
USPTA Tennis Professional
Dr. Joe Gallo is the Director of Tennis Operations for Summer's Edge Tennis School. He has over 20 years experience teaching Tennis. He and his sister, Dr. Ann Marie Gallo, founded Summer's Edge Tennis School in 1993. The tennis school operation is an extension of the recreational day camp business that Ann Marie Gallo established in 1991.
In addition to being a USPTA tennis teaching professional, Joe is a certified athletic trainer, physical therapist, and educator. He serves as Assistant Professor/Director of Athletic Training Education at Salem State College. Joe obtained his undergraduate degree from West Virginia University in the areas of Physical Education and Athletic Training. He also holds a masters degree in Physical Therapy and a Doctorate in Sports Physical Therapy. Joe teaches sports medicine and rehabilitation seminars throughout the united states. His research has been published in the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy.
